August 17th - The Castle

August 18, 2014
Well, after numerous attempts and being thwarted each time, I finally made it to the castle that inspired Walt Disney to build his castles in his theme parks, primarily Sleeping Beauty's Castle but you can also see it in Cinderella's Castle as well.  I have to say, after seeing it in person, I can see why it inspired Walt because this is an inspirational castle.  It took me a couple of hours to get to it and even a few attempts as mentioned before but it was worth it all.  I had to hike up a mountain, again, to get to it but this time the reward was incredible.  I saw the first view of it from the parking lot and it was a sight to see.

I made it to the top in about a half hour and was greeted by more amazing sights but the castle was by far the most dominating I have seen since I've been out here.  The backdrop to it was awe inspiring as well.  There was a river that ran through the valley beneath it and the sound was able to be heard on top in the castle.  Overall this was the highlight castle of my visit and I'm very happy I was able to make it to the castle in person.

So after spending some time on the mountain, I walked back down and made my way to another spot I saw while on top.  There was an aerial tram that took you to the top of a mountain next door to the castle.  I rushed to get there, hoping but alas was 15 minutes late to go to the top.  While it would have been nice to get up there, I did manage to get on an Alpine Slide and ride it.  I love those slides and remember riding one in Big Bear, CA many years ago and having a blast then.

I then proceeded to cross into Switzerland again for a brief moment and then headed back north to Stuttgart, where I got the speedometer up to 220 KPH.

I know that only shows 200 KPH but I didn't dare take my hands off at 220.

Anyways, got back safe and even though I hiked probably close to 15 miles this weekend on castle jaunts, half of which were uphill, I was very happy for the experience and opportunity.

So happy castles and...

Aug 10th - More Prague

August 10, 2014
What a totally incredible weekend.  I know I'll probably use that word a few other times to describe my trip but it's impossible not to use it so often.  The city itself is an amazing metropolis of history and modern combined.  There are buildings that are centuries old and some that are relatively newer.  I walked on The Charles Bridge, toured The Prague Castle, was lucky to catch the changing of the guard there as well, visited The Old Town Center and so much more.  It was a trip that meant...

August 8th - Prague

August 8, 2014
So here we are...Prague.  Somewhere I've been wanting to go for many years and I am finally here.  It looks so amazing as well.  I can't wait to start exploring tomorrow and see all the history there is here.  I can't believe I'm actually here.  I spent over half my military career training to fight a war against these people and now I'm visiting.  Awesome!!

Also had a very cool day the other day where I spoke to an old friend I hadn't in many years. Also had a BLT that was righteous.

Until p...

August 2nd - Castle ruins

August 3, 2014
So while I was planning on visiting the castle that inspired Walt Disney to build his castles, I overslept and decided on going somewhere more local and closer to where I was.  That choice turned out to be the Ruins of Hohenurach Castle.  I have to say, I saw the castle standing on top of a mountain and knew I had to climb up there to get to it.  While at first the mountain didn't look too tall, I learned how steep it got in some places.  I hiked for probably 5 miles or more but after climbin...

August 1st - Hello August

August 1, 2014
Well, here we are now in the beginning of August and things are cruising along.  It's the BBP birthday month as well so there's something to celebrate.  Also the fact that we will be back home later this month after completing the project we've been working on here in Stuttgart, Germany.  While it's been fun and exciting at times, it'll be nice to get back to the states and just in time for the best time of the year.  Epcot Food and Wine Festival will be starting roughly a month after we retu...

July 22nd - 3 years ago today...

July 22, 2014
3 years ago today, Grandma left.  It's been 3 years where I still miss her and wish I had one more chance to see her and talk to her.  She was the calm to the storm.  The person you could always count on to listen to you and give an honest opinion.  She was always so loving, so gentle and so good to everyone she met.

3 years ago today, Grandma left.  I was across the world when I heard.  I wish I would have been closer so I could hold her hand and hug and kiss her one more time.  I wish for ...

July 19th - 21st - Berlin

July 21, 2014
What an incredible weekend!  It was simply, amazing.  Berlin is definitely one of the most fascinating and interesting places I have been.  There is so much history, so many stories, so many horrors and so many more other things.  To actually see and do all I wanted would have required a week and more Euro's but I did manage to make it to the Brandenburg Gate, The Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, a guard tower from the old wall, the Holocaust Memorial, The Berlin victory Column, The Soviet So...

July 13th - Europa park

July 13, 2014
Wow!  I have been busy on my weekends, that's for sure.  This weekend I went to Europa Park.  It's the second most popular theme park behind Disneyland Paris.  However, this theme park is owned by Mack.  They design and build rides and almost all the rides in this park are built by them.  It's also a roller coaster enthusiast's place to come and try a wide variety of coasters.

The first ride I went on is a hyper-coaster called Silver Star.  It was a very fast, smooth ride and a lot of fun.  It...
