August 23rd - Europa Park 2

August 24, 2014
Well, well.  Seems I can't stay away from Europa Park.  It really is a very cool and well themed park and it's easy to find things to do that I missed on my first visit.  However, this visit, I took my leisurely time and found the attractions and rides I missed the first visit a little over a month ago.

I did manage to video their poor attempts to copy Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion and I'll be adding those to the site.  I do have to say as well, their animatronics do not even come close to Disney standards.  They may not even come close to Six Flag's standards.  I almost felt embarrassed for them in displaying those but I guess you can only do so much.

Got to the park just after opening and it turned out to be a very crowded day.  I had been trying to go during the week but some people I work with failed to live up to their word and "cover" for me when I had covered for them and they got a day off.  Oh well.  I'll have to see what I can do in the near future.  As I was saying before I sidetracked myself, I got to the park just after it opened and saw it was very crowded but I still managed to ride quite a few things I hadn't in my first visit and also got to repeat a few of the really good ones.  Blue Fire is an awesome coaster even riding it in the rain.  Wodan Timbur Coaster is incredible with detailed theme attention in the queue and Silver Star is a great ride, especially from the front seat, which I managed.  I also have to say that currently, Silver Star is also the tallest roller coaster I've been on.  Capping out at 239 feet, it is kind of intimidating when you're riding up the lift hill.  Gotta raise the hands and experience the "air time" as much as possible.  Also went on Matterhorn Blitz which has the tallest drop in the world for a "wild mouse" coaster.  Pegasus was a pleasant surprise and even though this is listed as a family coaster, it caught me off guard on the first drop but as I said, I was pleasantly surprised by it.  Poseidon was a pretty cool water coaster.  The theme attention was very cool as well.  It was very similar to Sea World Orland, Journey to Atlantis.  They were both built and designed by Mack Rides.  I actually got more wet due to the rain than the ride.

So another visit is done and I enjoyed it immensely.  I'm not sure what else I'm going to do while I'm here but at least I've made the most of it.  Hoping though that I'll be heading home soon.

Until then,

August 17th - The Castle

August 18, 2014
Well, after numerous attempts and being thwarted each time, I finally made it to the castle that inspired Walt Disney to build his castles in his theme parks, primarily Sleeping Beauty's Castle but you can also see it in Cinderella's Castle as well.  I have to say, after seeing it in person, I can see why it inspired Walt because this is an inspirational castle.  It took me a couple of hours to get to it and even a few attempts as mentioned before but it was worth it all.  I had to hike up a ...

Aug 10th - More Prague

August 10, 2014
What a totally incredible weekend.  I know I'll probably use that word a few other times to describe my trip but it's impossible not to use it so often.  The city itself is an amazing metropolis of history and modern combined.  There are buildings that are centuries old and some that are relatively newer.  I walked on The Charles Bridge, toured The Prague Castle, was lucky to catch the changing of the guard there as well, visited The Old Town Center and so much more.  It was a trip that meant...

August 8th - Prague

August 8, 2014
So here we are...Prague.  Somewhere I've been wanting to go for many years and I am finally here.  It looks so amazing as well.  I can't wait to start exploring tomorrow and see all the history there is here.  I can't believe I'm actually here.  I spent over half my military career training to fight a war against these people and now I'm visiting.  Awesome!!

Also had a very cool day the other day where I spoke to an old friend I hadn't in many years. Also had a BLT that was righteous.

Until p...

August 2nd - Castle ruins

August 3, 2014
So while I was planning on visiting the castle that inspired Walt Disney to build his castles, I overslept and decided on going somewhere more local and closer to where I was.  That choice turned out to be the Ruins of Hohenurach Castle.  I have to say, I saw the castle standing on top of a mountain and knew I had to climb up there to get to it.  While at first the mountain didn't look too tall, I learned how steep it got in some places.  I hiked for probably 5 miles or more but after climbin...

August 1st - Hello August

August 1, 2014
Well, here we are now in the beginning of August and things are cruising along.  It's the BBP birthday month as well so there's something to celebrate.  Also the fact that we will be back home later this month after completing the project we've been working on here in Stuttgart, Germany.  While it's been fun and exciting at times, it'll be nice to get back to the states and just in time for the best time of the year.  Epcot Food and Wine Festival will be starting roughly a month after we retu...

July 22nd - 3 years ago today...

July 22, 2014
3 years ago today, Grandma left.  It's been 3 years where I still miss her and wish I had one more chance to see her and talk to her.  She was the calm to the storm.  The person you could always count on to listen to you and give an honest opinion.  She was always so loving, so gentle and so good to everyone she met.

3 years ago today, Grandma left.  I was across the world when I heard.  I wish I would have been closer so I could hold her hand and hug and kiss her one more time.  I wish for ...

July 19th - 21st - Berlin

July 21, 2014
What an incredible weekend!  It was simply, amazing.  Berlin is definitely one of the most fascinating and interesting places I have been.  There is so much history, so many stories, so many horrors and so many more other things.  To actually see and do all I wanted would have required a week and more Euro's but I did manage to make it to the Brandenburg Gate, The Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, a guard tower from the old wall, the Holocaust Memorial, The Berlin victory Column, The Soviet So...
